Color blindness is not something that people think about often because it does no really pose a serious threat. However, this may hinder a person from achieving careers that require good ability to differentiate colors. What is color blindness?
The name color blindness is such a misleading term because it usually makes people believe that one who has this cannot see colors at all. They perceive it like watching an old black-and-white movie. This is possible but highly unlikely because color blindness is usually just the inability to see some certain colors, most commonly red and green. This happens because the eyes sometimes don't have the kind of sensitivity required to see colors properly.
Being color blind is hereditary wherein the passing of the defective gene for color vision is identified to be a recessive disorder. Other factors that may cause color blindness are diseases that may affect the cones or the color detectors of the eyes and medicinal side effects.
Unfortunately, there is no treatment for color blindness. However, there are special eye devices that can be used such as contacts designed for color blind people. The inability to distinguish some colors is certainly a disadvantage in many ways, but it does not hinder a person from driving (a good news to all the guys). People who are color blind determine the red and green traffic signals by memorizing the order of the position of the lights.
If your family has a history of color blindness and your child showed signs of having inherited it, consult your doctor immediately. There is no real cure for color blindness but it is still necessary so that you could take the necessary precautions. The eye exam that doctors give to possible color blind people is the Ishihara test wherein you have to distinguish the red and green dots in a picture.
